Sarah Ivory - ideas to increase preparation???
I have a sense preparation is incredibly low for the course.... Ideas to increase it are welcome? I don't want to create anxiety (i.e call people out to summarise an article and 'tell them off' if they haven't read it) but I also want them to DO THE READING! I (hope) you'll agree that we have not set excessive preparation....
Ideas?
Ideas?
It depends how demanding we want to be. One way of getting reading done is to test this informally in the classroom. "You must have read the...[name of article[... could you summarise it for the rest of the class and me."
ReplyDeleteI think reading will be done by very committed students--and not by less committed ones.
I also didn't really think this is a problem with my groups--but then I wasn't looking to test whether they had done the reading or not.
My focus has been on presenting and thinking about structuring their communication rather than depth of content. I plan to refocus after the Poster presentation towards quality of analysis and argument in the 2nd half.
:-)
Hi there. The reading is not difficult! three short newspaper articles for one session and they're of interest and link in to what we're doing...I tend to just keep referring back to 'that point in the FT' and reinforcing it!! they will pull it up on their screens and at least scan it as we go along. It's the academic articles that I've always had a problem with - students tend to scan the exec summary and then say they've read it! On the whole, it's early days for me to make any value judgments.
